As you are probably aware the Gold Coast will be hosting the Commonwealth Games from the 4-15 April 2018 and we are all super excited. Most of all we are looking forward to welcoming many new visitors to the Gold Coast and hopefully having the opportunity to take them for a truly iconic Gold Coast beach experience.
For the crew at Get Wet Surf School it will be business as usual except for a couple of days where we will have limited access to the beaches.
There will also be some changes in traffic conditions due to road closures, parking restrictions, excess security and extra traffic on the road. To allow for this and to keep our lessons flowing as smoothly as possible we have to restrict the pick-up service that we are able to offer.
If you are visiting the Gold Coast and would like to come and have some fun in the waves with us between the 3–16 April 2018 we will need you to come to our Main Beach pick up location, this is easily accessible from the Main Beach tram station.
During the Commonwealth Games all visitors to the Gold Coast will be encouraged to use the public transport systems wherever possible to get around and the G link tram will definitely be the most efficient form of transport and it is very easy to use.
The tram offers a multitude of stations along its route and connects all locations from Helensvale (heavy rail station for those people coming from Brisbane or Robina and Nerang) to Pacific Fair in Broadbeach. It is a very short distance from all stations to most of the popular hotels.
During this time, we will be restricting pick-ups to our Helen Park location and transferring participants to the Spit. The Helen Park pick up is located directly opposite the tram station on the corner or Tedder Ave and the Gold Coast Highway click here ( or see below). The pick-up time will be 15 min prior to the lesson time. We have been informed that the trams will be running evert 6 min between 7am and 10am and every 7.5 min between 10am and 4pm.
As usual complimentary transfers are only for persons participating in the surf lesson if you have relatives or friends who want to watch they will have to make their own way to the beach or call us on the day of the lesson to see if we have spare seats on our shuttles.
Of course, if you have your own car you are welcome to drive yourself to the beach and there will be no restrictions on parking at the Spit and it will remain free to park there but we do ask that you take into account the extra traffic on the road and plan a little extra travel time so they don’t miss your lesson.
We will also have a few up coming days where we are closed for public holidays over Easter.
If you have further questions regarding our new location, drop us a line here or call us at 1800 GET WET and we will be happy to help you.
Enjoy the games 😉
