I’M SURFING IN THE RAIN!
We all dig sunny beach days for our holidays, especially if we are going to a place called GOLD Coast. It is true that we are blessed with a beautiful weather most of the year, but remember this is not the Sahara Dessert… it has to rain at some point.
So if you get caught on a gloomy day, don’t panic! You don’t need to stay in your hotel room all day. Come surfing! After all, you are going to GET WET with us 😉 So here are a few reasons why you should come surfing with us when the weather is not on your side.
Light to Moderate rain is fine!
Especially over summer, a bit of rain will keep you nice and cool on the hot days. Rain also repels most of the beach goers which mean less traffic and more parking for you… they do say one man’s loss is another man’s gain.
Strong rain is fine for surfing. Driving in the heavy rain can be a hassle though… but hey, we do free pickups around the Surfers Paradise area. So let us worry about the driving, and you worry about the surfing.
Rainy days can bring strong winds.
Lucky for us, The Spit beach is located between a rock wall and a sand pumping jetty which provide protection from different wind directions. This is why The Spit is better for surfing than the rest of the open beaches around the Surfers Paradise/Broadbeach area. This area is also better protected from big swells and rough seas.
Thunderstorms can be a challenge for surfing. We stop a lesson as soon as we spot lightning in the area. Storm cells tend to pass quickly, and we do restart the lesson as soon as the storm cleared.
There are a few occasions when we have to cancel lessons due to weather conditions. We won’t run a lesson if we feel we can provide a safe environment for you to learn to surf.
We would hate for your holiday plans to be ruined for a bit of rain. If your plans have been dampened and you are trapped in your hotel just give us a call and we promise we will put a smile on your face and give you one of the best experience of your life!
If you have further questions regarding our surf lesson, drop us a line here or call 1800 GET WET and we will be happy to help you.
See you in the water 🙂
